Interest

Akinwumi Fajola currently supports the implementation of innovative public health, social investment, and sustainable development initiatives that positively impact people and communities. His work is centered on building strong partnerships with governments, development partners, civil society, and local communities.

One notable example is his involvement in a Shared Value initiative—the Obio Community Health Insurance Program, a model pilot project in Nigeria. This initiative is being implemented in collaboration with the Rivers State Government, Shell (SPDC JV), and host communities, aimed at improving healthcare access and financial protection for underserved populations.

Further Work

Akinwumi Fajola also serves as the Business Opportunity Manager (BoM) for the $5 million Oloibiri Health Program—a comprehensive local government-wide health and social determinants of health initiative. Catalyzed by Royal Dutch Shell, the program is delivered in partnership with the Bayelsa State Government and Ogbia Local Government, with technical support from the International Finance Corporation (IFC). The initiative is designed to deliver on key Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) targets.

He has co-developed value-adding impact mitigation and social investment initiatives across Nigeria, Gabon, and other Shell operation hubs. With nearly two decades of experience in the oil and gas industry, Fajola has cultivated deep expertise in the business of health, social investment strategy, access to healthcare, impact management, emergency response, and non-technical risk management. Program sustainability and change management remain central themes in the projects he leads.

In addition to his programmatic work, Akinwumi Fajola has served as a presenter and keynote speaker at national and regional summits, international conferences, and a TEDx event, where he shares insights on health systems, development, and sustainable impact.
