Akinwumi Fajola is a Public Health Medicine physician, specialist and business leader. He is currently Country Health Manager (CHM) at Renaissance Africa Energy Company Limited (formerly Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Limited- SPDC). He had served as CHM at Shell Nigeria ( SPDC JV) and as Regional Community Health Manager (RCHM) in the same organisation.
As RCHM he led and provided community health care support for communities in Nigeria and other Sub- Saharan African countries where Shell had its operations.

Akinwumi Fajola is a Public Health Medicine physician, specialist and business leader. Akinwumi Fajola is a specialist in Public Health Medicine and Epidemiology. He has served as a core consultant on immunization for the World Health Organization/NPI – N.I.D in both Imo and Kano States of Nigeria. He also held the position of In-Country Coordinator (Nigeria) for the Institute of Human Virology, University of Maryland, Baltimore—now known as IHV Nigeria—under the University Technical Assistance Program (UTAP), where he supported the launch of the HIV/AIDS PEPFAR program in collaboration with the Government of Nigeria and CDC GAP Atlanta.
Between 2003 and 2005, he served as the coordinator of the Ibarapa Primary Health Care Program at the College of Medicine, University of Ibadan.
Fajola was born in Ibadan, Nigeria, at the University College Hospital. He hails from Ijebu Jesa in Osun State. He attended The International School Ibadan (ISI) from 1983 to 1988 and subsequently studied Medicine and Surgery at the University of Ilorin. Class of 1989 to 1995.
As a MASHAV scholar, he earned an International Master’s Degree in Public Health (iMPH) from the Braun School of Public Health & Community Medicine at Hebrew University (Hadassah) in Jerusalem, Israel, in 2002. He received his Fellowship of the West African College of Physicians (FWACP) in Community Medicine by examination in 2005, following his senior residency at the College of Medicine, University College Hospital, Ibadan. He has also served as an examiner for the West African College.
Fajola is a Fellow of the Faculty of Remote, Rural and Humanitarian Healthcare of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (FRRHHEd), a Fellow of the Royal Society of Public Health (UK), and holds a Diploma in Health Systems Management from the Galilee International Management Institute in Israel.

He formerly served as the Vice Chairman of the Association of Public Health Physicians of Nigeria (Rivers State Chapter).
With a strong academic and research background, Fajola has contributed to approximately 30 research works published in peer-reviewed journals, presented as abstracts, or featured in book chapters. His areas of expertise and interest include data-driven approaches to strengthening health systems across all building blocks, the development of sustainable health care financing models aimed at achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC) in resource-limited settings, and improving access to health care.
He is also deeply engaged in immunization programs targeting vaccine-preventable diseases, remote health care delivery, reproductive health, and HIV/AIDS epidemiology—including care, treatment, and support.
Fajola has conducted research on the impact of lifestyle and health behaviors on road safety, and more recently, contributed to collaborative research on the emergence and spread of SARS-CoV-2 variants in Nigeria, during the COVID-19 pandemic, which was declared a Public Health Emergency of International Concern.
In addition, he has explored the intersection of renewable energy solutions and the social determinants of health, further highlighting his commitment to interdisciplinary public health innovation.
